Rock The Playground – Sat., June 16

“She” and “Turbosherbet” producer (and old friend) John Fields joins me for a rumble on the playground.

Nestled in our rough-hewn Laurel Canyon neighborhood is the gem of the Los Angeles Unified School District: Wonderland Avenue School. With my two kids there next year, I’m psyched to be performing at the annual “Rock The Playground” festival this weekend on June 16th. Line up includes all canyonites:

The 27s (2:50p)
Scott Wheatley (2p)
Willie Wisely (1:15p)
Laurel Canyon School of Rock (12:30p)
with our neighbor
KCRW DJ Gary Calamar keeping the vibe high!

World’s coolest food trucks, vendors, face painting and 1,000 partying people who all dwell in them there Hollywood hills. Proceeds go to maintaining the playground and keeping it open for the neighborhood on Saturdays.

John Fields joins me on bass. He is sooooo good with a bass guitar that even his mistakes are absolutely genius. I’m forever trying to make him screw up on stage.

He & I go way back to 1995’s “Minneapolis Does Denver” album (track 6), a tribute to John Denver that Fields produced. Soon after that first collaboration I’d get signed to John’s label October Records and make my albums “She” (1996) and “Turbosherbet” (1997). “Strawberry” Fields’ contribution to those records is enormous! I’m thrilled to still be making music together after so many years. A beautiful thing.
